Kinsale – County Cork

Kinsale is perhaps best known as Ireland’s fine food capital due to its numerous excellent restaurants, many of which feature fresh, locally caught seafood. The town’s culinary tradition is celebrated every October during the ‘Kinsale Gourmet Festival.’ Given its coastal location, Kinsale is famous for its fresh seafood like seafood chowder, mussels, and oysters. Kinsale boasts several award-winning restaurants offering gourmet cuisine.  

In addition to its many restaurants, the town is home to a wide variety of traditional pubs, cafés, wine bars, and some fabulous, family-run delicatessens. There are lovely craft shops and galleries to while away the hours. Visit the local farmers market to taste and purchase artisanal cheeses, bread, pastries, and handmade crafts.   

Kinsale is also known for its superb deep-sea fishing and Blue Shark is a specialty of the town. The shipwreck of the Lusitania lies just 18.5Km out from the Old Head of Kinsale and is a very popular angling site. Golfers love the stunning links at Old Head and come from all over the world to play.  

Explore the town’s rich history and architecture on a guided walking tour. Or try sailing, kayaking, or paddle boarding in the scenic harbour. Take a boat tour to spot whales and dolphins or visit the well-preserved 17th-century Charles Fort and admire the panoramic views. Kinsale is a colourful town with a variety of attractions and activities, something to suit every taste and interest.
