Kilmore Quay - County Wexford

Kilmore Quay is a popular fishing village in the south-east corner of Ireland 22 km from Wexford town. Visitors are always struck by the number of thatched cottages lining the village street, which date back to the 18th and 19th centuries and are of national importance.  

There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs serving locally caught seafood, and traditional bars. People travel from miles to taste the famous and delicious locally caught fish and chips. There are many restaurants serving delicious seafood and local dishes, such as the Silver Fox Seafood Restaurant, Saltee’s Chipper and Mary Barry’s Seafood Bar & Restaurant. 

At the end of the village is the lively harbour and marina. Kilmore Quay has a long tradition associated with angling and the harbour is a busy hub throughout the year. The beautiful marina has a 55-boat berth facility.  

From the harbour you can take a boat trip out to the Saltee Islands, among the most ancient in Europe and spot the sea birds from Gannets and Gulls to Puffins and Manx Shearwaters. The best time to visit is the spring and early-summer nesting season. Boats make the 4 km trip from Kilmore Quay harbour, but landing is weather-dependent. 

The area around the village has many unspoilt beaches, offering miles of the finest sand dunes in the south-east. Along with the Saltee Islands, the stretches of natural sand dunes are some of the features that make Kilmore Quay unique in Europe and beloved of visitors and locals.
