About Ballysteen
Ballysteen (in Irish Baile Uístín) is situated nearby to the localities Hogan’s Bridge and Mantlehill. Ballysteen was once known as Iverus, from the original Celtic tribe of Uibh Rossa who lived there. The most prominent landmark in Ballysteen is Beagh Castle, which stands on the banks of the river Shannon. It is reputed to have been built by the Fitzgeralds as an outpost fortification in the thirteenth century.
On a fine day and when the tide is in, the Ballysteen Pier and Slipway are very popular for swimming and water sports. Why not join the local children and jump off the pier or watch the jet skis. A group of friendly bottle-nosed dolphins are regular visitors and are amazing to watch. With a short drive, you can also visit the medieval Askeaton Castle, the famous Foynes flying boat museum, Ballinacourty Gardens, Shannon Aviation Museum or Adare Village voted the most beautiful village in Ireland.
Visit Limerick City and see Saint Mary’s Cathedral – the oldest cathedral on the Wild Atlantic Way or King John’s Castle – the most iconic Limerick’s landmark. Visitors will love the dazzling array of computer-generated animations and ghostly projections as they travel back through time. Sports lovers will appreciate Limerick Greyhound Stadium – it provides live, adrenaline-pumped entertainment. Top-class facilities ensure it is comfortable to watch the action from inside and out. There is live racing on Friday and Saturday evenings.
If travelling from abroad – Shannon Airport is only 45 km away.

"I can’t say enough about our stay at the Dingle Harbour Cottages. First, the cottages are clean and well equipped. The location is perfect. But the customer service was/is spectacular! My son hid his passport while we were there. Deirdre, the property manager, was able to locate it and arranged to have it delivered to us before we had to leave Ireland. Dingle Harbour Cottages have a customer for life."
