About Portsalon

Portsalon is located on a stunning peninsula in the North of Ireland, this picturesque coastal townland is situated on Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way. This region is also located on the scenic Lough Swilly, a glacial fjord or sea inlet lying between the western side of the Inishowen Peninsula and the Fanad Peninsula, in County Donegal. Lough Swilly along with Carlingford Lough and Killary Harbour it is one of three glacial fjords in Ireland. 

The area is world renowned for its Blue Flag beach, Ballymastocker, once deemed to be the second most beautiful beach in the world by The Observer. Our coastal self-catering holiday cottages in Donegal are only 4 km from Ballymastocker Bay and its magnificent sandy beach. 

After a long walk or sea dip on Ballymastocker beach head to The Stores ‘Olde’ World Bar located on the pier at Portsalon. Here you and your self-catering guests will discover a traditional Irish bar, restaurant, and shop all under one roof! A wonderful place to stop and reflect on your next holiday in Donegal.

Portsalon Golf Club is located 9 km from our lovely self-catering Donegal holiday cottages. Founded in 1891 this well-known links course was designed by Charles Thompson. Ireland’s most northerly point Malin Head is well worth the drive, experience rugged coastal landscape and attractive beaches along the 79 km drive.
