The famous Croagh Patrick is only 15 minutes drive from the town. While it is a challenging climb for any walker, the views from the top of Clew Bay and the surrounding county are really spectacular. At the foot of the mountain is a visitors’ centre which is adjacent to the National Famine Memorial designed by Irish artist John Behan and unveiled by President Robinson in 1997.
