The small village of Spanish Point has a pub, local shop, 9 hole golf course and The Armarda Hotel. It was made famous for being the birthplace of Dr. Patrick Hillery who became Ireland’s sixth president in 1976.
Spanish Point has an excellent sandy beach and is popular with both swimmers and surfers. In fact this part of Clare’s coast is increasingly popular with surfers and has a variety of surf hire shops and schools such as the Lahinch Surf School, Orbitalwinds and the Bens Surf Clinic.
The quaint village of Miltown Malbay is only 5 minutes drive from Spanish Point and offers a good choice of restaurants and traditional pubs which regularly host live music sessions. The village is well known as being the venue for extremely popular, annual music festival Willie Clancy Week. Bicycle hire is also available here.
Spanish Point’s central location makes the wide variety of local activities easily accessible. These include whale and dolphin watching at Carrigaholt, seaside amusements and an aquadome at Kilkee, stunning walks in the ancient Burren Region, the Aillwee Caves, the Cliffs of Moher Visitor’s Centre and boat trips from Doolin Harbour to the Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher.
