Fota Island Wildlife Park is only 40 minutes away and is a great day out for all the family.

The detached holiday homes have an open plan kitchen / dining / living area with wooden beams, open fire and French doors on to a patio area, two double bedrooms (one of which has a four poster bed and is en suite), a twin and a family bathroom.

Ballymaloe house and cookery school is just 7 km from Barnabrow, and is lovely for a visit for lunch, or to the shop selling their locally made products.  Like many places in Cork, Ballycotton has a strong maritime history, and is currently the home of the Royal National Lifeboat and there is a 19th century lighthouse just off the coast on Ballycotton Island which you can enjoy along the cliff walk at the beach. The area is well know as a great spot for fishing with a number of approved deep sea charters operating from the harbour.

We enjoyed the week in the Barnabrow Cottage, which was spacious and well laid-out;the washing, drying and dish-washing machines were an unexpected bonus. The cottages were well separated from each other with nice grass surrounds and the administrative staff were pleasant and helpful. On the down side, the lighting in the cottage was poor for reading in the evenings; the large rubbish bins on site were overflowing with rubbish with no attention to the green and black bins; there were no razor sockets in the cottage. Overall, a pleasant and enjoyable week resulting in a high level of family harmony.
