In an idyllic setting on Lough Derg, right at the marina in the centre of the quaint village of Mountshannon, these holiday homes are modern, beautifully maintained and provide a great base for touring the area around the River Shannon, East Clare and Tipperary. Mountshannon has some lovely pubs and restaurants, local shops and a great pizzeria. Cruisers on the Shannon dock here at the Marina which gives the village a really lively ambiance.
The self-catering holiday homes are beautifully designed and decorated with big picture windows and sitting out decks. Each one has an open plan living area with comfortable sofas, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms, 1 double (en suite), 1 triple (1 double & 1 single) and family bathroom.
There is a lovely 4.5 acre community park in the village with a children’s’ playground and a maze. You can hire a cruiser for a day and explore the Shannon River at a leisurely pace, go pony trekking locally. Fishermen have been coming to the area for generations, and golfers enjoy the East Clare Golf Club and further afield on the West coast, Lahinch and Doonbeg Links.
No. 40 Lakeside Village is a lovely house with three spacious bedrooms. Both bedrooms upstairs are ensuite. One room has a double bed and a single one, with ample space. The second bedroom has a double bed with access to a walk in linen cupboard/ hot press. The downstairs bedroom is slightly smaller than the two upstairs but has a double bed. The bathroom downstairs is well equipped for use by a disabled person having handrails fitted. It is also the only bathroom in the house fitted with a bath. The living room / kitchen is a lovely size so that everyone did not feel claustrophobic. There were all the modern conveniences available if needed. We had brought dvds with us but there was nowhere to play them. The tv had a limited range of channels with the local RTE1 having the worst signal of all. As it happened the lack of tv etc did not affect our enjoyment as we are not avid tv viewers. We had no internet which was fine as when the college offers came out we drove to Scarriff and made use of the local library facility. The view over the lake id magnificent and we had ring side views of the local harbour flights taking off and landing on the lake. Fascinating! We would definitely recommend this house to anyone with either young or older children. There are facilities for water sports within a short driving distance away for all.All in all a lovely week. Weather was good. The Snug restaurant catered for all tastes when we went there. There are other good restaurants in the village but as this one was the only one we used we can only comment on it.
